Astell & Kern’s new Luna In-Ear screens are the kind of sound product that makes me sad because they probably sound incredible and like many of the best wired earplugs for audiophiles, they are far beyond my budget.
The new moon-inspired Luna is the third set of earplugs in Astell & Kern’s own IEM series, and they are the company’s most luxurious listener. Where the previous flagship AK Zero 2 uses a “Quad -Brid” setup with four different kinds of driver, there is only one driver here: a plan magnetic.
Astell & Kern Luna Iems: Key Functions and Pricing
Each of the titanium buds here contains a specially developed 13 mm Katabiki Micro Planar Magnetic Driver, which Astell & Kern created in collaboration with Madoo. It is a unipolar magnetic circuit with a single magnet and a double ring -shaped yoke that Astell & Kern says to give “superlative control”.
The idea of flat magnetic drivers is that they use a larger, flat, ultra -thin membrane compared to ordinary dynamic drivers. They are capable of deeper bass response and amazing details compared to dynamic drivers, but they are difficult to produce.
Housing for the flat membrane is CNC-machine aluminum for stiffness, and the ultra-thin membrane is made of light film and a printed aluminum pattern for significantly reduced weight.
According to Astell & Kern, the unique speed, unique sound resolution and a very natural and detailed sound experience with a frequency response from 20Hz to 30 kHz.
Each pair of Luna IEMs is handmade in Japan and comes with an attractive Alcantara case. The cables are silver-coated OCC and copper OCC, which mixes silver with high purity with copper plates and finishes in an aluminum-fought 2-pole 4 mm connectors. Seven sets of ear tips come in different sizes and materials.
Luna Iems is now for sale with a price tag of £ 2,699 / $ 2,700 / € 3,049 (approx. AU $ 5,612).
