- Solidm shows purple-colored, liquid-cooled SSDs at GTC 2025
- Designed put me in mind about its LEGO SSD with limited edition for #122 Day
- Soliktm D7-PS1010 E1.S for AI servers launched by the end of 2025
For the unveiling of its 122.88TB D5-P5336 SSD on #122. Day (January 22) Soliktm created a custom LEGO version with a limited version of its high capacity drive for journalists and customers to build.
This promotional product, timed to coincide with International Lego Day on January 28, feels like an appropriate foreplay for what the company showed on the GTC 2025.
Although there was no toy -like about Soliktm’s compact rack of fluid -cooled NVME SSDs on the screen, it had the same visual flair with a funky purple color scheme and a 9.5mm form factor.
Removing air cooling altogether
The demo contained Soliktm D7-PS1010 E1.S mounted in a dense mini-rack setup. Although the SSDs were fluid cooled, it was not done in the traditional sense.
No liquid flows through the drives themselves. Instead, they depend on server-mounted cold plates that come into contact with both sides of the SSD lining pipe.
Servethehome Explains, “instead of bringing the liquid into SSD and having to deal with fast interruptions and potentially losing a drop or two liquid with each change, the server has cold plates. Then SSDs are inserted into these cold plates, which then cover a face of SSD’s case, keeping it cool.”
Not related, but very relevant, is the fact that NVIDIA showed off Kyber-based NVL576 racks at GTC.
It is expected to launch in the second half of 2027, they could pull up to 600 kW, and Nvidia suggested that future racks could demand full megawatt power.
In this kind of environment, any component – including storage – must throw heat effectively, some SolidM’s solution achieves without the need for fans.
In addition to removing air cooling completely, it will reduce plumbing costs and support Hot-Swappable ESSDs.
The fun purple housing and small -scale rack configuration definitely made the screen stand out among more conventional server demos at the event, but this is not a consumer product.
SOLIDEM designed D7-P1010 with input from NVIDIA, specifically for corporate and AI workload, and plans to offer it in two versions: a 9.5 mm model with fluid cooling support and a 15 mm version for air-cooled systems.
The launch is targeted to the second half of 2025.
