At least 8 killed as bus overturns near Chakwal

At least eight people were killed and 18 others wounded when a private business bus traveled from Rawalpindi to Lahore overturned near the Balkasar exchange on the M-2 motorway due to a tire plug.

According to the motorway police, the vehicle’s front-left tires burst, causing the driver to lose control. The bus overturned shortly after.

Rescue teams and highway officials reached the scene immediately after the incident.

Rescue 1122 confirmed that the deceased and wounded were moved to District Headquarters Hospital, Chakwal.

Smaller injuries were treated on site by the motorway police and emergency response people.

Among the deceased were 35-year-old Habiba, eight-month-old Haider Mohsin, an unidentified one year old child, 26-year-old Umme Habiba Mohsin, 14-year-old Khadija Khaliq, two-year-old Haram Khaliq, 45-year-old Sardar Nadeem and 38-year-old Munsha.

Rescue operations were underway at the time of the report.
