An anti-terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta on Wednesday awarded a 10-day physical custody of accused Sardar Sherbaz Sakazai in the high profile double murder case about a woman and a man, Express News reported. The case stems from a cruel incident in the Degari area three days before Eidul Azha, where a woman and man were killed in public.

The defendant was presented to ATC # 1 in Quetta, where the court approved the police’s request for extended custody. The court instructed his custody to remain with the police’s serious crime investigation wing.

The ugly video of the attack circulated on social media three days ago, prompting chief minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti to take notice, which led to more arrests.

In a surprising development, however, the victim’s mother, Gul Jan, claimed that her daughter, Bano, had been punished by Baloch’s customary law.

She said Bano had been laid off with a man named Ehsan for 25 days before she was pardoned by her husband and that the decision to kill her followed a Jirga Held, culturally sanctioned judgment.

She added that Ehsan had threatened her sons and shouted provocations in Tiktok videos. Yellow Jan appealed for the release of Sardar Sherbaz and other prisoners.

Senior priests, including Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi and Maulana Maqbool Ahmed, urged the state and the judiciary to intervene against all perpetrators and facilitators, and emphasized that although family members seek forgiveness for perpetrators, “Sharia does not allow pardon in unfair killing.”

The religious body further emphasized that parents involved in the murder should also be held responsible, regardless of social or stamline customs, and called for full investigation and litigation in accordance with the law.
