- Transparent micro -LED display shows different content on both sides simultaneously
- Ultratynd 17.3-inch design mixes futuristic aesthetics with the real world functionality
- Maker Auo suggests aviation, retail and interior use for double view
Transparent screens on devices such as smartphones and tablets have long been a staple with sci-fi movies and TV shows because they look good even if they are not always practical. But now they are starting to become a reality.
Taiwanese Display Manufacturer AUO (AU Otronics Corporation), formed in 2001 through the merger of Acer Display Technology and Unipac Optoelectronics Corporation, has shown a double-sided transparent micro-LED screen at Taiwan 2025.
This first of its kind of screen is a thin 17.3-inch screen that offers a transparent experience on both sides and can present different content depending on the viewing angle.
For use on flights and in home and shops
The screen can display separate images or data on each page, and AUO suggests that a possible use case would be in first -class airline huts, where passengers and flight persons can each see their own interfaces.
AUOS DEMO included a translation interface that presented seamless multilingual communication throughout the display. Commercial scenarios such as store windows, museum exhibitions and digital signage are also seen as natural care for technology.
The ultra-thin design combined with transparent micro-LED technology represents a shift from traditional display use towards something closer to surrounding computing.
Unlike unilateral transparent OLEDs, which often struggle with brightness and image clarity in direct light, Auos Micro LED -Tech offers higher brightness and color performance – potentially overcoming many of these limitations.
AUO has not revealed when it expects the display to go into production, nor has it given any hint for pricing, although it is reasonable to say that the screens will not be cheap.
A video posted on YouTube shows the screen in use by the 50-second brand brand.
