Authorities seek the help of the army in the middle of the city’s flood risk in Islamabad, Pindi

Rawal Pindi: Torrential showers continued to bat Islamabad and adjacent Rawalpindi overnight, with 129 millimeters of rain that raised fears of urban areas, causing the administration to seek the army’s help in the twin towns.

According to a Water and Sanitation Agency spokesman (WASA), the Authority’s CEO has reached the 111 brigade of the Pakistani Army as it has been decided to call the army in the event of an emergency.

With Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) that forecasts more rainfall, sirens have been sounded in areas around Nullah Leh as the water level has risen by 16 feet.

WASA has said that an emergency preparedness has been introduced in the rain, and its teams and heavy machinery have been deployed in low -lying areas of rawal pindi with staff busy in drainage efforts of tackling accumulated water.

“Nullah Leh and drains all over the city are continuously monitored,” Wasa MD said, adding that the water level at Katarian was 16 meters and 14 feet at Gowalmandi Bridge.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 has also been placed on high attention, where its district administration officer advises people to safe places before the city’s flood and to evacuate the continued buildings.

So far, Saidpur has received 53 mm rain, 77 mm in Golra, 95 mm in Bokra, 67 mm in Shamsabad, 105 mm in Kachehri, 90 mm in Pirwadhai and Gowalmandi and 80 mm in Katarian.

Cloudburst in Chakwal

Apart from the twin towns, different areas of Punjab are abused by heavy rain. A Sky Burst witnessed in Chakwal, causing as much as 423 mm of rain.

Several low -lying areas have been flooded with water coming into the houses. The district administration has said that a rescue operation was underway to move citizens to safer places.

According to the additional Deputy Commissioner, the serious situation is a result of a skyburst.
