- Avengers: Judgment Day can go head-to-head with another huge movie at the end of 2026
- Marvel -Film’s release was recently pushed back from May 2026 to December of that year
- Florence Pugh is expected to play in both movies
It’s time to start preparing for the 2026 edition of Barlenheimer, all together.
With Avengers: Judgment Day By being delayed until December 18, 2026, the highly expected Marvel movie is set to fight with another massive movie late next year.
That movie? Dune: MessiahThe third post of Denis Villeneuve-instrumented sci-fi epic franchise. At the time of announcement, another of 2026’s most exciting new films is also set to land in theaters next year on December 18, and so long Avengers 5 and Dune 3 Keep their current release dates, we could have another movie viewing event in Barnerheimer style on our hands.
For those who may need a reminder, Barlenheimer was the title assigned to the event that saw Margo Robbie-starring Barbie Film and Christopher Nolan-Instruated Oppenheimer Flick was released the same day in 2023. Their contrasting styles and genres combined with the great amount of talent involved in both productions, so many fans streams to their local theater to watch back-to-back screenings of these films.
Avengers: Judgment Day and Dune: Messiah will not be so polarizing stylistic, but two of the 2026 hottest ingredients record different genres. The fifth Avengers movie is undoubtedly a cartoon/superhero movie, while Dune franchise-boats Frank Herbert’s books and its movie series-names brother square in Sci-Fi Realm.
In my opinion, it is enough to ensure that they meet the criteria that were first laid by Barlenheimer. This creature is the sharp contrast between both films valid enough to create a similar film -based phenomenon event around them. Avengers: Dunesdaynaked?
None of this will of course be something if Avengers 5 Suffering another setback on the launch day. Alternatively, Warner Bros. -Pictures and subsidiary studio legendary possibly blink first and decide to delay Dune: Messiah‘s own release so that it is not forced to compete with the filmatic Juggernaut who is Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
If Dune 3 And the second Marvel phase 6 movie retains their current release dates, but Christmas 2026 is sure to be a happy (and money spinning) for Florence Pugh.
Pugh, who recently played as Yelena Belova in another MCU movie in Thunderbolts*was advertised as part of the first 27-strong role crew to Avengers: Judgment Day At the end of March. However, Pugh is also expected to surprise her role as Princess Irulan, which she first played in Dune part twoin Dune: Messiah.
As long as Irulan is part of the latter role crew, Pugh is set to appear in two of the most expected films launched by the end of 2026 – not bad for anyone if the breakout -role first came in 2019’s A24 People Horror Indie Flick MidtmarEH?
However, realistically I cannot see Judgment Day and Messiah releases the same day.
Filming is not on the latter yet, and will not be for any time. Meanwhile, since the Hollywood strikes in 2023, several Marvel films have been delayed at least twice, so Judgment Day liked a similar fate.
I’m not sure which movie will be shunted back in 2027 but as much as I want to Avengers: Dunesday To be a thing, it already looks like a pipe dream – and that is before several release date delays are potentially announced.
