SHUSHA, ASERBAJAN: In a major breakthrough, Pakistan and Azerbaijan on Friday signed a landmark partnership agreement that paved the way for a $ 2 billion investment in Pakistan.
The agreement reflects the continued flow of investments in Pakistan under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
In the presence of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Azerbaijan Minister of Economist Mikayil Jabbarov signed the agreement of a total investment of $ 2 billion dollars of Azerbaijan in Pakistan’s economic sector. The Pakistani delegation was also present at the occasion.
The agreement was signed between the two countries after a heartfelt meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev in Khankandi.
The last and detailed agreement will be signed during the Azerbaijan President’s visit to Pakistan.
The agreement has raised investment and trade between the two countries to a historical level. It is expected to serve as a milestone for further strengthening of fraternal ties and improving trading partnerships.
Prior to the Prime Minister’s recent visit, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Pakistan’s diplomatic mission, and relevant delegations reached a consensus on various aspects of the agreement.
Both countries also agreed that further exchanges aimed at promoting cooperation in several sectors.
In a speech with the media in Shusha, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and Azerbaijan had signed an investment agreement of $ 2 billion and added that future investment would increase the manifold.
“We are grateful to the president of Azerbaijan for investing in Pakistan,” he noted.
He added that he had a productive and meaningful encounter with the president of Azerbaijan.
The Prime Minister said that the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Member States agreed to improve cooperation in trade, investment, water resources and other sectors.
He also said that the member states had also agreed to increase cooperation on the issue of glacier meltdown.
