Non-fungible token (NFT) project Azuki has announced the release of ANIME, a Japanese cartoon theme, described on its website as a “cultural coin.”
The price of the Azuki NFTs rose 9.1% after the announcement, with the cheapest NFT selling for 13.77 ETH ($42,000), according to CoinGecko.
“We acquired Anime.com, which will soon launch together with Animecoin as the home of global anime fandom,” Azuki wrote on X. “And now, together with the Animecoin Foundation, we are creating the next arc of anime… Our Mission remains the same: Build the open anime universe.”
The token will be distributed with a heavy focus on the community, with 50.5% of the total supply being allocated to the community, of which 37.5% will be fully unlocked at launch, while an additional 13% “will be managed by ANIME holders through the future AnimeDAO to fund community incentives and initiatives.”
The company’s team and advisors will receive 15.6% of the supply tied to a three-year vesting plan.
The move to release a native token follows Pudgy Penguins, which issued PENGU in December, which now has a market cap of $1.87 billion.
