Lahore: Former Captain Babar Azam has been told to improve his batting against spin and increase his overall strike frequency to be considered for Twenty20 Internationals, coach Mike Hesson said.
Babar is the Batting Batting Barbar in other formats, but has not played a T20 international since their tour in South Africa late last year.
The 30-year-old could not find a place in the Pakistan trop for the Asia Cup next month as the team management showed faith in rising players like SaBzada Farhan.
“There is no doubt that Babar has been asked to improve in some areas of taking spin and with regard to his strike frequency,” Hesson said of the upper order dough, which has a modest strike speed of 129 in the T20 Internationals.
“These are things he works really hard on. But the moment the players we have done have done the exceptionally good.
“SaHibzada Farhan has played six games and won three game-of-match awards.”
Babar was going to use the Big Bash League in Australia to improve its 20-overers batting and scene a comeback, Hesson said.
“A player like Babar has an opportunity to play in BBL and show that he is improving in these areas of the T20s. He is too good player not to consider,” he said.
Pakistan begins their Asia Cup Group A campaign against Oman in Dubai on September 12, before meeting Arch-Rival’s India in the same place two days later.
