- Apple’s M5 MacBook Pro may have been delayed until 2026
- There is no reason for the apparent deferral
- This means Apple may be launching two MacBook Pro models next year
For the past few years, Apple has launched a new MacBook Pro in the fall as a watch – but this year it could all change. That’s because a new report has claimed that the M5 MacBook Pro may be pushed back to the beginning of 2026, with Apple allegedly “internally targeted” that date instead of the regular window with the release of late year.
The surprising news comes from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who has been a reliable source of apple leaks and rumors in the past. Gurman’s latest report contradicts his previous reporting, which suggested that the M5 MacBook Pro would be revealed near the end of the tail of 2025. This means that something has changed Apple’s opinion on when to push the new laptop into the limelight.
Gurman has not given a reason for the delay, so the reason for Apple’s decision is someone’s guess. That said, the reporter noticed that the timing is “fluid”, which suggests there is a chance that the next MacBook Pro could appear before this 2025 is over.
Still, the launch of a MacBook Pro early in the year is not without a precedent when, for example, the M2 MacBook Pro was released in January 2023. Still, this model has been the exception in the Apple Silicon era, with M1, M3 and M4 MacBook Pro edition, all coming out in the fall.
Disappointing delays
What could be caused by this delay? Gurman did not offer any tips here, and it is not immediately clear what Apple’s thought process can be.
The M5 MacBook Pro is probably a minor update where the New Apple M5 chip is the most important differentiate between it and the M4 MacBook Pro. This means that problems with the chip can be one of the main causes of the delay. Alternatively, Apple can simply keep the device over until 2026 for sales reasons.
Next year could be a big to MacBook Pro, with a redesigned model that is expected to arrive at the end of 2026. This version is meant to come up with a new design and OLED display that marks the biggest update to the MacBook Pro since the last revision in 2021.
But with the M5 MacBook Pro, which potentially crawls into 2026, we will have to see if the OLED MACBOOK PRO is also being put into the long grass as a result.
