- Samsung Galaxy Tri-Fold phone can only be launched in China and Korea if a new rumor is something to go by
- A new patent filing also suggests that Samsung has created a design for a Quad-Fold phone with three hinges
- Samsung has neither recognized the rumor nor the patent
At this year’s first Samsung Galaxy-packed event, Samsung suggested that it works on a multiple phone-and-also referred to as a tri-fold phone-which has since come to be known on the back mill as Samsung Galaxy G Fold.
However, a new rumor suggests that eager Samsung fans in many parts of the world could be disappointed with the Galaxy G Fold’s availability at the launch.
As Gsmarena reports, lists were discovered in the GSM Association’s database for two new Samsung model numbers, SM-F968N and SM-F9680. It is suspected that these are referring to the suspected multiple phone.
The report adds that Samsung typically uses the N SUFFIKET for phones intended for its domestic market in South Korea, while a code ending in 0 indicates a Chinese release.
There are no other lists for SM-F968 at the moment, suggesting that the phone first and foremost will come to China and Korea.
It is also possible that Samsung does not plan a wider release for the Galaxy G Fold – we have previously seen a similar release for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold See in October 2024, and this phone has not yet appeared on store shelves outside China and Korea.
However, this seems to be a strange choice considering that the company previously teased multi-fold devices at the globally streamed Samsung Galaxy-packed event in January.
A fourth fold?
Although we have not even had an official confirmation of a particular Tri-Fold device from Samsung, another rumor suggests that the company could push on with the next phase of folded telephone development.
A patent that is uncovered by Sammobile shows that Samsung has patented a new design that would allow for a three-hanging, four-panel folding phone.
The design has a hinge right in the middle of the inner screen where the phone is folded inward on each side.
We do not know if Samsung intends to make this design reality soon – it could just be an example of sitting on intellectual property.
In any case, if Samsung skips the West with the Galaxy G-Foldet, I hope we are at least considered for some Quad-Fold phones that grow up in the years to come.
