- Fujifilm may have asked retailers to suspend orders on three cameras
- Rumors suggest x100VI, GFX100RF and X-M5
- The move could be customs related-we have asked Fujifilm for an answer
Fujifilm X100VI has not been easy to find at the best times since it was launched just over a year ago – but the compact camera could soon become really impossible to buy new in the US, according to new rumors.
An anonymous source has apparently told Fuji rumors that Fujifilm recently “contacted retailers on suspension of orders” for X100VI along with the new FUJIFILM GFX100RF and the black version of Fujifilm X-M5.
If it is true, it means that Backorders for Fujifilm X100VI can now be suspended in the United States, which means it is unable to participate in the queue of people waiting for one. It would also mean that pre -orders for GFX100RF, which were announced less than a month ago, could be suspended in the United States before it even got started.
The small Fujifilm X-M5 apparently has not been so severely affected, with the suspension of pre-orders that seem to only affect the black version. But it is possible that stock of the silver version, which is already shipping, can also run out. We have contacted Fujifilm for a response to these rumors and will update this story if we hear back.
The problem is apparently that as Fuji rumors claim, the X100VI and X-M5 are both made in China, which the United States has exposed to a customs of 145%. The GFX100RF is made in Japan, so the reasons for its apparent problems in the United States are less obvious.
Something that is also not clear is whether the knock-on effect can be the greater availability of these three cameras in other regions.
In the UK, for example, Fujifilm X100VI is still pretty much on backorder, but it may not be possible to divert stock to different regions due to variations in accessories and warranties.
What do you need to get instead?
We do not yet know how accurate these reports of Fujifilm -Suspending Dealer Orders to X100VI in the United States are. But no matter what, it is already very difficult to buy the camera new, with X100VI listed as ‘out of stock’ at Fujifilm’s store and backordered at retailers. The trade war certainly will not facilitate this situation.
Fortunately, the X100VI is not your only option. I have previously written about how the camera has helped to raise used compact camera prices because of its popularity, but this effect began to subside at the beginning of 2025 as the share problems relieved.
If you want a powerful compact camera that is really pocket (and less than x100VI), Ricoh Gr III and Gr IIIX (which I would go for due to its 40mm lens) will both good options.
We have also recently noticed the availability of Leica D-LUX 8, while other solid used options include Panasonic Lumix LX100 II and FUJIFILM X-PRO 2. But my choice would be either FUJIFILM X-T30 II or X-T50 factually I bought it as it fell to a new record price recently.
Neither XT models are as small or as desirable as Rangefinder-style x100VI, but they come with the significant advantage of being able to change lentils. It makes them potentially better long-term buyer and definitely superior short-lived-in-considering that they are actually available to buy both new and used.
