- Nintendo Switch 2 only supports VRR using its built -in screen
- This was confirmed in a recent statement from Nintendo
- It follows confusion about VRR -Support in Docket Mode
Nintendo has confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 will only have variable update frequency (VRR) support on its built -in screen.
This comes after the company quietly removed mentions of VRR support in Docked Mode from its US and Canada Support websites. It was then removed from the corresponding European support sites.
“The system also supports HDR, VRR and image speeds up to 120 fps on compatible TVs,” the site said earlier. This was updated to read: “The system also supports HDR, VRR and image speeds up to 120 fps on compatible TVs.”
We already know that VRR is supported on the console’s built -in screen, but this change left some potential buyers who wonder if the system would actually support VRR when in the dock.
Nintendo has finally clarified the situation in a statement delivered to Nintendolife. “Nintendo Switch 2 only supports VRR in handheld mode,” the statement begins. “The wrong information was originally published on the Nintendo Switch 2 site and we apologize for the error.”
This can be bad news if you’ve already got your hands on one of the best games -tvs or screens, many of which offer VRR support. The technology adjusts the dynamic screen update speed to match the image speed of your games, reduce tearing and give a unified impression of smoothness.
It is supported by both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S and has become a popular option for players with supported screens. In a title like Assassin’s Creed ShadowsFor example, we have found that activating VRR leads to a much more comfortable experience.
Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025. Both UK prisoners and US pre-orders are live now.
