Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said on Monday that security forces, including the terrorist department (CTD), had averted a large -scale plan for destruction on the day of independence and credited their efforts to save the province from major destruction.

When he spoke at a press conference in Quetta, “On August 14, the suicide bombers had planned to target innocent citizens who celebrated the Day of Independence,” the minister said while approaching a press conference.

Bugti praised law enforcement authorities and urged parents to carefully monitor their children to prevent them from being misled. He emphasized that the people of Balochistan should remain cautious and stay away from elements that spread propaganda.

The main minister revealed that they involved in Quetta Railway Station attack in November 2024 were the same people behind the recent plot.

He said investigations were underway and that more propaganda tools would be exposed to. Bugti emphasized that although society would not be subjected to collective punishment, those aimed at “our innocent children and citizens” would be treated.

Bugti also revealed the confession of a Buitem University lecturer who admitted to having used the telegram application for terrorist activities. The lecturer admitted that he had received goals, facilitated terrorist operations and betrayed the state.

According to Bugti, the arrested lecturer held a Ph.D. in Pakistan studies and had taught students while his wife was also a teacher and his mother a pensioner. “Where is the deprivation here?” he asked, criticizing the exploitation of tales of marginalization. He also claimed that such elements also exploited women to prepare them for suicide attacks.

Bugti warned that those who opposed the state should be tried in accordance with separate laws and confirm that “terrorists will be treated with an iron hand”. He said the question of missing persons was systematically used as a propaganda tool against the state and clarified that “there is no forced disappearance on our part.”

The Minister of the Principal emphasized that Parliament was the top institution of the country and all powers were derived from it.

Bugti confirmed the arrest of a facilitator of the forbidden, among other things, from Quetta and said that about 2,000 people trying to break the country would not be pardoned. He added that investigations had also identified government employees among suspects.

In a comment on the kidnapping of two assistant commissioners, Bugti admitted that it was mentioned, but assured that operations were underway, including one in Khalipat Hills the previous night, to secure their safe improvement.

He maintained that security forces had the capacity to fight terrorism, while the provincial government would deal with legal and administrative affairs.

“Those who want to talk to us will find our doors open,” Bugti said. He urged all political parties to stand against terrorism and recognize the state’s victims to counteract it.
