Bar panel calls for full hearing against 26th amendment

ISLAMABAD:

The Lawyers Action Committee has demanded that the appointment of judges be halted until the conclusion of petitions filed in the Supreme Court against 26 constitutional amendments.

The bar leaders said during a press conference in Islamabad that if the Supreme Court declares 26 constitutional amendments invalid, the new judges will be dismissed. The 26th Amendment has destroyed the justice system.

The bar leaders demanded that the SC judges protect the constitution and that a full court be formed to hear petitions against the 26th amendment.

Advocate Riasat Ali Azad said an impression is being created that the legal body is firing at the behest of a political party. “We have no political agenda, but we strive for the constitutional supremacy,” said the bar leader.

Meanwhile, the IHC Bar Association also challenged the 26th Amendment in the Supreme Court. The Bar has petitioned the Supreme Court to nullify the constitutional amendment.
