A football match in Spain involving the popular Team Barcelona FC was postponed after a member of the team’s medical staff died, the club announced.

Just about 15 minutes before a Saturday home game against Osasuna at Lluís Company’s Olympic Stadium was set to begin, fans were informed that it would be postponed due to doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia.

Barcelona said it was “deeply sad to announce the adoption of first -team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia tonight,” in a statement. The club also expanded “heartfelt compassion to his family and friends in this difficult time.”

Barcelona did not immediately deliver any details of the cause of death, as local media reports said were due to medical causes.

“I can’t believe it,” wrote Barcelona player Ronald Araújo on X. “Rest in peace, doc.”

50-year-old Miñarro Garcia joined the medical staff in Barcelona’s first team last season after working with his futsal team earlier.
