Barrister Gohar Slams Judge Suspension

Peshawar:

Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barristist Gohar Ali Khan has called on the Supreme Court to notice the suspension of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Tariq Jahangiri and denote the move “Unconstitutional and Harmful to Legal Independence.”

In a speech with the media at Peshawar High Court, Barrister Gohar said that personal differences among judges once limited to chambers and letters have now wasted in open confrontations in the courtroom. “For us, every door has been closed. We have reached a dead end and the only option is to seek justice from the courts. Any extra constitutional step is unacceptable,” he noted.

He recalled that the Supreme Court under the former Chief Justice IFTIKHAR Chaudhry’s tenure had determined a precedent that no judge could be excluded from legal work as it was equivalent to dismissal.

“Suspending a judge is contrary to the constitution. Such actions erode public confidence in the judiciary, which is already fragile,” he warned.

Barrister Gohar criticized the growing view that the judiciary is no longer independent. “If the judges are fighting among themselves, how can the public rely on courts of justice?” He asked and called for Chief Justice to ensure that PTI’s pending cases are heard under the law.

The PTI commander also accused lower courts of de -sage “unfair” judgments against his party’s legislators and claimed that members received convictions of a total of over 100 years. “If the Supreme Court had kept a closer surveillance, such decisions would not have been possible,” he said.

He emphasized that refusing access to PTI’s basic chairman and his wife fuel for public despair. “When the country’s most popular leader is imprisoned, it spreads hopelessness, and hopelessness breeds resentment. Resentment threatens governments, damages the economy and weakens the state,” he added.

With the announcement of a Partirally in Peshawar on September 27, Barrister Gohar said all events would be the responsibility of the provincial government. “People from all over the country will gather to raise their vote peacefully for their rights,” he declared.
