Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy revealed that the US government reached out to him for a position within its ranks.
Portnoy described the call he received from someone within the government as “weird” in a video sent to his X account.
He said he mentioned the call he got during a performance with Pakinomist ‘and Fox Business’ Stuart Varney, but “No one was aware.”

But even though he had no interest in the job, he found a great demand to be quite strange.
“I got a call I don’t know, a few months ago? I don’t know when I got the call,” Portnoy explained. “It was like, ‘Hi, would you have any interest, Dave, by joining the Department of Commerce – Commerce Secretary under [Howard] Lutnick or the guy who works under him. ‘

“But a warning to join the government is that someone should run bar stool. You can’t run bar stool and work for government. I assume elon [Musk] Don’t have a specific title, but you want your CEO with the eye on the ball, right? “
Before explaining the call, Portnoy raised a question about Musk’s work as CEO of Tesla, while also performing his duties with DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, during the Trump administration.

“The one thing I’m wondering about, with Elon, he is of course CEO of Tesla, and he does all this DODE thing, which I think is good,” said Portnoy. “Get rid of government waste, I am. But how do you drive Tesla when you work on DOGE 24/7?”
When he went back to the call he received, Portnoy said it was nothing but that.
“Too other, even though I wanted to do it, they never followed up,” he said. “They were like, ‘Tell us if you could find someone to run bar stool and you are interested in it. If you are interested, we will be planning a call in a week for the next steps.’ It never happened, so it was weird.

Portnoy seems to have no interest in not being able to run bar stool sports, which he founded in 2003 and built into a very successful media brand.
