Cincinnati Reds paid tribute to Pete Rose on Wednesday night-one day after the Major League baseball removed all time HITS leader and others from the permanently unjustified list.
Red’s fans packed the city on the way to Great American Ballpark to see the team celebrate one of the best players in the history of the franchise as he gets a chance to have a plaque in Cooperstown, New York, in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Chants of “Pete! Pete!” was heard throughout the park. The stadium held a first name moment of silence, and a chorus from Rose’s High School in Cincinnati performed national anthem. Fans had Rose sweaters and the highlights were shown on the video table throughout the game.
“It was fantastic,” said Pete Rose Jr. About the ceremony via mlb.com. “It’s at home. These are all friends and family. I drove 15 minutes from home to get to the ballpark. I want to drive 15 minutes back. I try to explain to people, they don’t really get the aspect of dad to be here. I try to tell them he is our babe Ruth. If you’re out of here, he’s our babe Ruth.”
He added that the family could not have asked “for a better evening.”

Rose was placed on the unjustified list after the revelation that he gambles on the reds to win – both as a player and manager. After years of claiming innocence, Rose admitted to games in 2004. He also faced allegations of sexual mismatch over the years after he retired from the game.

He complained in his last conversation that he would only enter the Hall of Fame after he died. It is a prophecy that took one step closer to reality Tuesday.
On Wednesday, however, he was celebrated.

“My dad used to tell me all the stories of how hard he played every time,” said Red’s Reliever Brent Same. “You know, never took a spectacle, always ran hard 90 (feet), sliding head -fixt, you know to get dirty every game. … this was a guy who just embroidered toughness, gravel.”
Reds Manager Terry Francona also talked about Rose. He was a teammate of Roses with Cincinnati and Montreal Expos.
“He played baseball with as much passion and competitive joy as you could ever,” he said. “You would join his team.”
Now is the debate about whether Rose should be in the Hall of Fame and whether it was right to keep him out for as long as baseball did.

“I know I simplify things. But what Pete did as a player if he’s not in, there’s no Hall of Fame,” Francona said. “But I’ll get it. There are some things that … I’m glad I don’t have to make (these) decisions.”
