Baylor footballer Alex Foster Killed in Mississippi -Shooting

ONE Baylor University Football The player died early Wednesday morning after police say he was found in a car suffering from several gunshot wounds in his Mississippi -Hjemby, as local officials say have seen a recent increase in violent crime.

Alex Foster, an 18-year-old defensive Lineman, was later identified as a victim of an early morning shooting in Greenville.

“We are the heart bridge of the unexpected loss of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, friend and a loved part of the Baylor family,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Mack B. Rhoades, IV and Head Football coach Dave Aranda said in a joint statement released by school.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and all those who loved him. During this time with deep grief, we draw strength from our faith and the unwavering love of the Baylor community. Our immediate focus is on supporting Alex’s family and his teammates through this devastating loss. Alex’s memory will forever be part of Baylor University.”

Greenville Police Women Major Misty Mew told Associated Press that officers responded to reports of a shooting in a residential/commercial area in the city shortly after midnight. When on stage, they located a man suffering from several gunshot wounds inside a car. Mew did not name Foster as the victim, but Washington County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity to the marketing market.

Foster was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Aranda later released a separate statement of X and said that the Baylor community has been left “destroyed” by the passing of the fetus.

“Alex was a beloved member of our Baylor family and we are destroyed by this loss. During his time at Baylor he had a long-standing influence on all of us in the program. Our hearts are ruined and our prayers are with his family, friends and all those who loved him so deeply.”

In response to shooting death, Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons spoke about the recent “wave” of crimes affecting society.

“Over the past several weeks, our society has been deeply shaken by an increase in violent crimes, including several shootings, an increase in violent crimes, pistold acts and meaningless killings,” he said in a short video address. Simmons added that after a vote on Wednesday, the city implements a curfew immediately from 1 p.m. 21 to 6 daily “so far.”

“It is to protect the life and well-being of any Greenville resident.”

Foster joined Baylor in 2024 as one of Mississippis Top-20 views and the 69th defensive lineman ranked in the nation. He did not see any action last season after he red -cut his first year.
