Bill Belichick had a “Welcome to College Football” moment Monday night when his North Carolina Tar Heels was blown by TCU Horned Frogs, 48-14, to begin 2025 college football season.

It was an evening full of expectation, celebrity performance and pure hype at Kenan Stadium, as Belichick’s first taste of being a college football header started at home in Chapel Hill. Tar Heels hoped to launch a new era with a win to not only chop another first under Belichick’s resume, but get the program heading in the right direction from the jump.

However, the horned frogs had another thing in mind when they were blown by the screaming audience of over 50,000, which included like Randy Moss, Michael Jordan, Roy Williams, Lawrence Taylor and many more.

The Belichick era began with an impressive North Carolina opening-driven touchdown as Tar Heels walked 83 meters down the field with Caleb Hood that closed it with his first score of the season.

But it was all TCU after that where he scored 41 unanswered points on his way to an easy win.

Horned Frogs Quarterback Josh Hoover cube of Tar Heels’ defense, and it started with a 27-yard strike for Jordan Dwyer, who was a favorite all night in the passport, to a touchdown that tied the game on Seven County after the extra point.

TCU became more physical in defense, especially on the line with review, which hindered what UNC would do when they had possession. The Horned Frogs held them to three equal three-and-outs while taking the lead with a field goal early in the second quarter.

North Carolina seemed to get some momentum back as Hoover’s passport was too high for his intended recipient, and Tar Heels’ Kaleb costs made an acrobatic interception to turn the field.

But UNC Quarterback Gio Lopez gave the ball right back to TCU, and it was in the worst way when the veteran security knob ran a route and took the interception 25 meters to the house for a pick-six that made it 17-7. The horned frogs would end half with a short field dimensions and take a commanding 20-7 lead into the dressing room as the amount was stunned.

However, this feeling would not end as the very first game of the second half was a 75-yard touchdown race by the Horned Frogs star, who ran Kevorian Barnes back, walking down the right sideline to break the game open.

UNC was unable to return at the time when the horned frogs continued to run up the scoring of running back Trent Battle Rushing in 28 yards to make it 34-7, and Lopez was fired by Jonathan Bax, which led to his Horned Frogs teammate Devean agreement to shovel up the fumbled football Another touchdown.

At that time, Belichick Quarterbacks, who went with Max Johnson, changed a touchdown drive late in the third quarter to add some points to Tar Heels. But the game was out of reach and it is clear that Tar Heels has a lot to work on taking in next week.

Meanwhile, Hoover showed off in front of many NFL scouts and went 27-of-36 in 284 yards with two touchdown passes and an interception thrown. Barnes had 11 carriers in 113 yards, while Dwyer pulled in for a total of 136 yards to help TCU’s case.

No one expected Belichick to immediately turn the program around and get them to compete for a national title, but this was a shocking result to be dominated at home to kick his collegial coaching career.
