Ben Shelton is ready to return to the harsh court at Usta Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for Third Round Action at the 2025 US Open.
Shelton defeated Pablo Carreño Busta in straight sets in another round of men’s single match on Wednesday. After the victory, Shelton fielded questions from media members. But the 22-year-old American tennis star ended up hearing a question from an unexpected visitors to the press conference.
The American woman’s national football team Star Trinity Rodman, who publicly recognized his romance with Shelton earlier this year, cheered on the world’s sixth ranked tennis player from the stands during the second round match.

A visibly surprised Shelton replied by asking an unknown person who was not seen in a video sent to the US Open’s social media account, “Why did you give her a question?”

“I just know you like to earn big, and it wasn’t in 140 today,” Rodman continued.
Shelton then offered an explanation.
“Yes, it was cold outside,” he replied. “So I think that was the main reason. I was focused on beating spots and I didn’t hit these spots, so maybe I should just earn bigger – but something I will definitely work on next time.”

In addition to playing for USWNT, Rodman competes at club level on the Washington spirit in NWSL. She is the daughter of five-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman.
On Sunday, Shelton recognized the efforts that Rodman made to support him in this year’s US Open. “My boyfriend took Red Eye from California last night to be here,” Shelton said.
Shelton meets Adrian Mannarino in the third round Thursday.
