Benedict Cumberbatch opened just about how his and Olivia Colman’s friendship hit a “speed bump” after they offended each other in the set of The roses.
The actress and actress star together in the film, as a recreation of the original film from 1989 The War of the Roses.
In a new interview, the stars revealed how it fully embraced the story of a lawyer and his wife who decided to divorce leading to a tough legal battle.
The couple follows in the footsteps of Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, who originally played the roles of Theo and Ivy.
Now, even though the real friends pretty much enjoyed offending each other on sets, there was a point that it got too much.
Benedict explained, “There was a speed where it started to get a little toxic, and I was like,” I might have to check in with you as a friend because this is getting a little ugly now. “
The Sherlock Holmes Star mentioned further, “But after it was just a lot of fun to offend each other and make it up [to one another]. “
“I don’t remember exactly what it was, but I just thought, ‘oh if we make a scene and have a moment together, chatting on sets and doing it, and then I go off and do things – I just need to clear the air and [remind myself] It’s okay, we’re good, we’re here, we help each other, ‘”he mentioned further.
“It’s the same as it was before the gloves started to get off. So the short answer is that it was a lot of fun, but I did – I had a blip,” Benedict said.
Olivia chimged in and mentioned that she knew that the whole scenes were “pretending” and added, “Then we just wanted to go” aww “and we always wanted a little kos at the end of a scene.”
The dark divorce comedy, The rosesMust be released on August 29 and is based on the novel 1981.
