Olympic alpine skier Berkin Usta25, was tragically killed with his father in a fire that consumed a closed ski resort in the northwestern region of Turkey early Thursday morning.
Usta that represented the Turkey at 2022 winter -ol in Beijing, Stayed at Kervansaray Hotel in Uludag, about three hours south of Istanbul, with his family when Blaze first started around 2 p.m. 05:30

The Bursa Governor’s office said 12 employees were present at the time of the fire and more people were hospitalized with smoke breathing.

Usta and his father, Yahya Usta – President of the Turkish Ski and Snowboard – Teachers’ Association – were killed in the fire. Yahya Usta’s wife is believed to have survived the fire.
“We have learned with deep grief that our national skier Berkin Usta, who represented our country on Beijing 2022 Winter -Olympic Games and Erzurum 2017 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival, and his father, former national skier Yahya Usta, died due to a hotel fire in Uludağ, Bursa,
“We want God’s grace to our national skier Berkin Usta and his father Yahya Usta and offer our condolance to his family, dear and sports society.”

IOC President Thomas Bach also released a statement following the tragic news.
“We have learned about the tragic death of the Turkish Olympic skier Berkin Usta, and his father in a terrible fire.
Local officials believe the fire began at the hotel cafeteria. The family stayed on the fifth floor of the hotel, despite its doors being permanently closed in early January after its accommodation was canceled. It was not immediately clear why they were at the hotel.

The fire on the six-story, 30-year-old hotel was put out within two hours, but not until the fire had devoured much of the upper floors.
Thursday’s deadly fire comes only months after the other Popular ski resort In the region he burned and killed 79 people in January.
