Cardano has continued to promote his credentials as a place for Bitcoin Defi (BTCFI), facilitating a transfer of ordinals to its main network.
The on-chain transaction between Bitcoin and Cardano was relieved by BitVMX, an interoperability protocol built using the BitVM programming language.
The transaction was revealed by Input | Output (IO), Creator of Layer 1 Cardano, at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
The bridge represents a “preview of what is going to come,” Io said in an E -Mail message. Its ultimate target is a full integration between Bitcoin and Cardano, which provides DEFI services to BTC users and locks huge amounts of liquidity from the value stored in Bitcoin.
To this end, the IO has developed the “Cardinal” protocol, a portmanteau of Cardanano and ordinals utilizing BitVMX to assign Bitcoin -native assets to addresses on Cardano.
The ordinals -the protocol were introduced at the beginning of 2023, enabling inscription of data on individual satoshis (the smallest BTC church community, equivalent to a 100 million on a bitcoin), making them unique and traceable. In reality, this created a Bitcoin equivalent with non-funny symbols (NFTs).
