Blake Shelton has embraced Step Dad’s duties with all his heart.
Since marrying Gwen Stefani, Shelton has helped her sons Kingston, 18, and Zuma, 16, hone their musical talents, even to make them perform in his bar and restaurant, Ole Red, in Oklahoma.
“When they get up there, you assume they have been doing this for 10 years. They are very comfortable and not at all rattled,” Shelton told People.
“They have three professional musicians in their lives and have grown up to stand on the side of the scenes and watch this all their lives, so they feel in their minds how they should be when they get out there – but man, I was definitely not so calm when I wanted to get on stage,” said Shelton about Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo, who grew up watching their parents gwen stefani and dad Stradiums.
While Kingston and Zuma are both in music, they are in different kinds of music. Zuma is in country music like Shelton and plays more in her bar.
“The special place makes more sense for Zuma. He leans into the country music pretty much 150 percent,” Shelton shared. “He is a fan of older country music and newer country music, which has been pretty crazy for us to see.”
“I never try to force my music. I just accidentally think throughout his lifetime when driving in the truck with me somewhere, he can’t help but hear the station I wear,” he added.
