Braves News: Olivia Harlan Dekker takes on Wiley Ballard backlash

Fanduel Sports Network Braves Reporter Wiley Ballard got some setback to ask a woman for her phone number during an on-air report on a game on Monday night.

The daughter of the legendary TV company Kevin Harlan and wife of NBA player Sam Dekker said the Ballard event is blown out of proportion.

Some of those who were critical of Ballard’s actions wondered what would have happened if a female sideline reporter did what Ballard had done.

Harlan Dekker spoke from experience.

“People who get angry over the Braves Reporter asking for the girl’s phone number are insanity! Haha how does that insult you? It was harmless and sweet … good TV I would say,” said Harlan Dekker’s first post. “It doesn’t detract from the game or season. Light up.

Braves Sideline Reporter’s efforts to get the woman’s phone number sparks disputed online debate

“I’ve been a team reporter and the season is long. Manufacturers are always looking for something else/memorable, ways to involve fans or showing some human interest around the game. Most of these interviews are duds, so good on him to have a sense of humor and roll with it.

“If anyone can show an example of a woman being fired over something similar, you have an argument,” she explained. “Until then … you can’t just say” a woman would have been fired for this.

“In the middle of a baseball match in the early season of the regional/team broadcast, his producer told him to get something colorful in the crowd, his stand eggs him on, the girl played into it, and it wasn’t creepy. It’s sports -tv, it’s entertainment! This wasn’t a board space or or.”

During his live segment, Ballard said the broadcast booth wanted him to get two women’s phone numbers.

“I’m dead serious, they say in my ear right now,” Ballard said in the air, talking to both the TV stand and women about their phone numbers. “She doesn’t believe in me because she thinks in guys make this up. I will use it in the future. It’s actually a pretty good move. I should have thought of this year ago,”

The segment was quickly bassed on social media, although a warmed debate began with people thinking in the same way that Harlan Dekker.

An X account said the segment showed “crazy double standards in sports” while another went more in depth on the counter -argument.

“This is the stupidest thing and the stupidest indignation.

Arizona Cardinals Team Reporter Dani Slearck also gave her thoughts.

“Sooooo, we still want to ask women in sports if they only do their job to date athletes ?? We can all agree on how inappropriate and ugly this is, not to mention the double standard, right?”

Harlan Dekker is an NFL reporter and host of Pakinomist and Westwood One Sports.
