- Three new Breville ‘Barista’ espresso machines: slimline, classic and sense
- Barista Slimline is an affordable model for entry-level with a compact footprint
- The Barista Classic and Sense are both mid-class bean-to-cup machines
If you’ve been thinking about buying your first coffee maker or upgrading your existing one, you’re lucky – Breville has just launched a lineup of three new espress machines, with one for any budget and experience level.
(This is the British company Breville, which is not associated with the US company of the same name whose products are labeled ‘sage’ in England.)
The smallest of the new trio, Breville Barista Slimline Espresso Machine, is only 6.1 inches / 15.5 cm wide with an industrial standard 58 mm porta filter. It is operated using a set of simple physical buttons, making it easy to master and has a practical cleaning program for One-Touch to flush Grouphead and the screen between breweries. It costs £ 239.99 and is available from Amazon or from Currys.
Its size, price and specifications are similar to the popular de’longhi Dedica style, so I’m curious to see how the two compare in practice.
Bean-to-Cup
Next is the Breville Barista Classic Espresso Machine, Price for £ 499.99 and only available on Currys. This model has a tapered burring breast with auto-dosing to make sure you get exactly the right amount of coffee in your filter basket, and antistatic technology to prevent flying over your kitchen and adhere to the machine (always a frustrating problem).
That’s about the same price as Ninja Luxe Café, which is currently for sale for £ 499.99 on currys, but with the antistatic technique and without the automatic milk steamboat.
Finally, there is the Breville Barista Sense Espresso Machine for sale for £ 599.99 at Currys and at Amazon. It has the same burr grinder as the Barista Classic, but with the addition of a smart tempense steam wand that can stop steaming your milk automatically when it reaches a certain temperature to avoid unintentional overheating (which can result in an unwanted horizontal taste).
The rod can create different structures depending on the type of drink you want (fine and liquid microphoam for eg lattes and dryer for cappuccinos) and is optimized for both plant -based and dairy milk.
You can also adjust the machine’s pressure profile to tailor the coffee extraction to your taste, which is an unusual and welcome feature at this price point.
