Brittney laughing reveals disturbing details of Russian prison cell buddy

Brittney laughs has described how life was in a Russian detention facility in the past, but she revealed some terrible details of what led to one of her cellmates being in prison with her.

Laughing appeared on Cam Newton’s “Funky Friday” podcast, where the Atlanta Dream star discussed her time jailed. During this conversation, laughing explained how inmates were not separated based on the crimes they committed.

So while she said most inmates were in prison because of murder or drugs, one of her early cellmates was there for a slight reason.

“I had a cellmate at the beginning. I thought something was off with her,” said laughing. “She acted as a child, but she was a grown woman, but she acted a lot like a youth child. And then she had combustion brands all over herself and I found out the fact that she was selling videos online of her husband and her child – together. And that was the one they had me in a cell with.”

Laughing added that the nature of her cellmate’s crimes led to others in prison “torturing” her.

“There’s not much torture from inmates with girls on the women’s side,” laughing. “But if you in there for something similar, yes, you will be tortured. And they would put their cigarettes out on her and get her to sleep at the door.”

Laughing continued to say how she was “crazy” over the prison that was not separated by crime when she did not want others to “connect me to it.”

“I didn’t really sleep at night because she was over there and sings and doing strange things at night,” said laughing about the roommate.

Laughs shared details of her upset experience last year during a sit-down with ABC News’ “Good Morning America” in 2024.

She had said she thought her “life is over right here” after realizing she was leaving vape cartridges in her luggage at a Russian airport in February 2022. While laughing played basketball abroad, which is common for WNBA players.

“I was just so scared,” she said in the emotional interview.

Laughs were transferred to a Russian penalty colony approx. 300 miles outside Moscow after being sentenced to nine years in prison. She sentenced almost 10 months of this verdict before being released as part of a prisoner exchange.

“The mattress had a huge blood stain on it. I had no soap, no toilet paper. That was the moment when I just felt less than a human being,” noted laughing about the time in prison.

Since returning home, laughing has gained a new perspective on life in the United States, which was on full view at Paris -ol in 2024. Laughs, who once resolved national Anthem, was seen emotionally about Team USA that won another gold medal in basketball.

“I didn’t think I would be here,” she said via Reuters. “And then to be here and win gold for my country and represent when my country fought for me so hard to even stand here. This gold medal will have a special place among the other two I was lucky to win.”

Laughing, 34, stars for the dream now that she average 10.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per day. Match. She is a nine-time all-star, two-time scoring champion and eight-time blocks leading over her career.
