Cleveland Brown’s main coach Kevin Stefanski dealt with claims that his coaching decisions “sabotaged” Shedsur Sanders’ performance in the season’s final trial match.

He was 3-of-6 with 14 passing yards and was fired five times. Dillon Gabriel had 129 passing yards and a touchdown pass, and Tyler Huntley led Browns on the last drive that set their game-winning field goals.

Sports study Skip Baysless and other questioning of Stefanski’s decision making. Bayless said the tire was stacked against Sanders when he played with third and fourth string players. He said Brown’s “sabotaged” his performance.

On Sunday, Stefanski rejected these accusations.

“Yes, of course, I don’t worry about things from the outside, but I’m committed to his development, just like all our rookies,” said Stefanski. “So we continue to focus on getting our guys better, and that’s what we stay engaged in, and that’s what’s important to me.”

Stefanski said he kept Sanders out of the last two minutes of the 19-16 win over Los Angeles Rams to give Huntley a little more time.

He also praised Gabriel’s growth from his first preseason game for Saturday.

“He did a great job yesterday. There’s plenty, plenty to clean up our rookies and all our players,” said Stefanski. “So it’s the fun part, again that I mentioned, where we can work with these guys and build on the good things, help them clean up the things they got to clean up.

“But really for Dillon it goes back to spring. It goes back to all the work he has put in all these young players they put from spring to now, and just need to continue building on that work.”
