Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority (KPUMA) announced on Monday an RS10 climb in ticket prices across all phases of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Peshawar, citing a sharp increase in fuel costs.
According to the official review, the minimum price is revised from RS20 to RS30.
For Express routes – the market as a faster, premium service – the ticket price is increased from RS60 to RS70.
Authorities said the ticket price was important to ensure the continuity of reliable high -quality transport services.
The revised prices will take effect from July 1, 2025.
Officials added that rising operating costs without the audit could affect the quality and availability of daily transit services for the city’s growing number of BRT users.
Previously, Peshawar expanded its BRT network by adding 72 new hybrid -diesel buses to meet the growing demand and reduce traffic congestion.
New BRT routes were launched along Ring Road, Bara Road and Khyber Road, with civilian works to be completed within six months.
The construction of BRT Plazas, including Mall of Hayatabad and Dubgari Plaza, was expected to end in April.
In order to tackle traffic problems, seven submissions were planned to be built on Ring Road and University Road, with feasibility studies to be completed within two months.
Further subordinates in densely populated areas were also proposed and efforts were made to remove traffic blocks on University Road within a month.
Main Minister Ali Amin Gandapur confirmed his commitment to urban development despite financial challenges.
It was also decided that BRT-style services would be introduced to four other division headquarters: MARDAN, SWAT, Abbottabad and Dera Ismail Khan after feasibility surveys.
