Burglars broke into a locked house in Karachi’s Lines Area and stole jewelery and cash worth over Rs7 million, authorities said on Friday.
The family was attending a wedding at the time of the theft.
The incident took place in the jurisdiction of the Brigade police, near the former Macro Super Store.
The thieves attacked a house on Tunisia Line, Water Ground Street, broke open locks and fled with valuables.
According to police, forensic teams visited the spot to collect evidence and begin investigation.
Shoaib, son of the home owner, said his family left home around 22 for a wedding at a cousin’s residence nearby. “We returned around 1.30am to find the locks on the doors and cupboards broken,” he said.
The stolen items include approximately 16 tolas of gold jewellery, Rs 3.2 million in cash and other valuables. Shoaib added that the money and gold had recently been withdrawn from a bank safe to complete the purchase of a new house.
Police confirm that no official complaint has yet been lodged. “We will register a case and investigate thoroughly once the family has submitted a formal report,” said an officer.
The police find ‘stolen’ jewellery
Last week, Rawalpindi district police arrested a thief and recovered stolen gold jewelery worth 12 tolas from his possession in an operation.
The Saddar Beruni police arrested the accused Muhammad Khalil, a local resident, who had stolen 12 tolas of gold jewelery from a disabled citizen’s house a day ago.
