- 51% of British companies consider data sovereignty “decisive”, reports allegations
- Almost equal measures see it as a burden or as an asset ovhcloud finds
- Data rate access, handling, storage and portability are all benefits
New research has revealed the growing need for data sovereignty, influenced by ongoing geopolitical tensions and market competition studies.
A report from Cloud Computing Giant OvhCloud found half (51%) of British companies now consider data SOVEREIGNITY as an important part of their data management strategies.
In addition, three out of four (77%) IT decision makers are now saying that data sovereignty is more important than three years ago.
Datasuverty is the essence of building customer trust
Exactly why companies are so eager for data sovereignty, however, varies out of five (40%) it sees as an observance problem, but more than a third (36%) said it involves data access, handling and storage. Another 28% said sovereignty is related to data portability.
Data -sovereignty has gained popularity in recent years after America’s struggle with China and studies of US hyperscaler’s dominance over the global cloud markets – in 2024 AWS confirmed that it would support European data sovereignty and choose Germany as its first location.
“Having a sturdy data sovereignity strategy means you know who controls your data, where it is, who has access to them and what rules it is subject to,” noted OvhCloud Multi-Cloud Evangelist Matt Tebay.
Of the 500 decision makers, 41% said it is just something they need to comply with, but 42% added data SOVEREIGNITY is important to their customers and is therefore an asset to their business.
“Organizations are increasingly realizing that it is not only a cost and legislative burden, but can build better customer confidence, improve control and provide a layer of security and transparency to customers,” Tebay added.
“Obviously, the intersection of customer confidence, technology, regulation and commercial considerations can create a challenging journey, but it is an important and which everyone travels, the first step is the most important thing.”
