Cain Velasquez convicted: Ex-UNFC Star gets prison time for 2022 shooting

Former UFC star Cain Velasquez was sentenced to five years in prison Monday after he did not praise any competition for his role in a 2022 shooting in California.

Velasquez will receive 1,283 days as credit for serving time, which amounts to about three years, according to KTVU. He earns another year and a half in prison.

He shared some regret over the shooting before a judge handed the verdict.

“I agree to accept regardless of sentence,” he said. “When I move forward, I will try to give a good example for everyone. Out of all this, I want to ensure feelings for my family and society.”

The ex-master claimed no competition for crime and gun taxes as part of a negotiated agreement with Santa Clara County prosecution, District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in August. The deliberate murder costs against Velasquez were dropped as part of the agreement.

Velasquez was arrested in February 2022 for murder trials and several gun fees after police said he fired on a pickup carrying the man whom he alleged to have assaulted his 4-year-old son. The man was later identified as Harry Gular.

Prosecutors said Velasquez chased a pickup carrying the man through busy streets in the San Jose area. Authorities said the hunt spans 11 miles.

The former mixed martial arts wounded the man’s stepfather in the incident, officials said.

Velasquez won his first UFC tongue weight championship in 2012 by defeating Junior Dos Santos. Velasquez successfully defended his title twice.

He had a short pro -wrestling career in WWE and Mexico’s AAA.
