Cal Raleigh’s dream season for Seattle Mariners continued on Sunday as he made MLB history for a catcher.
The Switch-Hit slugger, who is known lovingly by the Mariners fan base as “Big Dumps”, became the first Catcher in the MLB story to reach 49 home runs in a single season, broke Kansas City Royals star Salvador Perez’s previous brand of 48.
Raleigh also did it with style and crushed his second home drive in so many bats against Oakland athletics in his home T-Mobile Park.

Raleigh had already taken athletics starter Jacob Lopez Yard at the bottom of the first place and he had another chance in the next frame – and he didn’t waste it.
At the first pitch he saw, Raleigh, battling from the right side, turned on for a shift that caught too much of the plate and saw it sailing over the left field fence.

Mariner’s faithful went wild in the stands and recognized what Raleigh had just done. Raleigh celebrated together with his teammates in Dugout and carry around the Mariners’ Trident, who is given to all players hitting a home drive.
Raleigh was MLB’s leader in home runs with 47 who came in on Sunday, two ahead of Philadelphia Phillies star Kyle Schwarber. He expanded this lead in magnificent fashion, and the smile on his face said it all.
Perez hit 48 home runs during the 2021 season and ties him with Toronto Blue Jay Jay’s first Baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the league lead that year.

At that time, Perez broke out a long-lasting MLB-Catcher record and surpassed Johnny Bench’s 45 home runs from 1970.
But Raleigh has had the right 2025 campaign, which became the first primary catcher to win the derby by home driver, which he won back in July. He has had a sweet swing all season, and the seafarers have enjoyed every time he is connected to one – because it looks like he just won’t cool off.
It also helps the Seattles autumn season chances as they are 2.5 games at the back of Houston Astros for the Al West leader coming in on Sunday. They also have the last Wild Card position in the American League, with Perez’s Royals sitting 2.5 games at the back.

In what is expected to be a heated race in September, Mariners would love that Raleigh added his now record home driving in everything hoping to get their shots on a World Series title.
