Former American course and field star Maurice Greene spoke on Monday when officials of the California High School disqualified a rising sprint star to perform the celebration he made famous.

Sophomore Clara Adams from North Salina’s High School finished in second place at 400 prelims and quickly got out of the starting line in the 400-finals and ran to a first place, or then she thought.

Adams celebrated with his father after winning the race. She took a fire extinguisher from her father and sprayed her shoes with it, pointing out she was on fire, the Monterey Herald reported.

Greene performed the fire extinguisher after he won the 100-meter strike at the Home Depot Invitational 2004. “When I heard because it happened, and then people just started calling me ‘this girl who just ran 400 did your party’ I was like he? He told KSBW TV Monday.

“If it was away from everyone and not disturbed anyone, I would say reintroduced her,” said the former Olympian.

Adams’ father, David, said the celebration was done away from any of her opponents.

“I have video of it,” he told the Monterey Herald. “She was on the other side of the wall. I asked her to walk off the track. She didn’t spray her shoes on the field. We have protested on the decision. I feel it was racing motivated.”

He further explained to KSBW TV.

“When she blew the fire extinguisher, the opponents were gone,” he told the station. “It was our celebration moment, and cif -officials did it to them. The audience went crazy, they loved it, the cif -level went crazy, they loved it. But the few guys in these jackets committed a breach of it, did not like it and took a decision -based on emotion.”

California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) maintained the decision to disqualify Clara Adams from 400. She then learned that she couldn’t compete in 200 either.

Pakinomist Digital reached out to CIF for comment.

In the wake of the incident, a petition was circulated to reintroduce Adams’ victory. It has received more than 1,700 signatures from Tuesday morning.
