Hyderabad:
The Hyderabad Chamber of Small Dealers and Small Industry (HCSTSI) has called on the federal government to extend the deadline for income tax by 48 days with reference to changes in the Iris portal and the flood situation in Punjab, KPK and Sindh. In a statement on Sunday, the chamber’s President Muhammad Saleem Memon claimed that the desired relief is needed to ease the taxpayer and to prevent them from being exposed to avoidable sanctions and difficulties.
This year, he said FBR has introduced several new changes, such as automated data uploading, interactive forms and a new verification mechanism in the IRIS self -declaration submission system. However, he claimed that the system has not become completely functional. “Taxpayers and accounting people experience login problems, repeated error messages and unclear problems such as ‘receipt value’ errors.”
Memon pointed out that even the paid persons have complained about confronting difficulties on the portal.
“Strict compliance with the current deadline under these circumstances would unfairly punish thousands of people,” the President of the Chamber warned.
While referring to rain and flooding areas in the country, he said the suspension of electricity, Internet and banking services has deprived of both traders and employees with timely access to their financial items and accounts. He added that it will be extremely uphill or even impossible for such files to complete the tax archiving within the given timeframe. HCSTSI, he urged the government to immediately advertise an extension.
