I’ve been listening to a lot of earplugs over the years, and some of my favorites come from British Hi-Fi brand Cambridge Audio: I owned the company’s very first Melomania 1 knobs, which also stopped far above their modest price tag, and I owned (and really assessed) their Melomania Touch knobs. So I’m quite excited about the arrival of new Cambridge sound earplugs with even higher sonic specifications.
The new buds are Cambridge Audio Melomania A100, to effectively replace the already amazing Melomania M100 launched in May 2024 and they boast of a new design, a completely redesigned companion app and some important audio upgrades.
Just want to know how Well they are? You don’t even have to wait! We have a full Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 review ready for you early doors.
Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 earplugs: Key features and price
Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 knobs have LDAC and APTX-free (from compatible phones) to high quality sound flow, and they have the same class AB reinforcement as you find in the company’s renowned CX and ex-series amplifiers. AMPS drives precision set 10 mm neodymal drivers and promises “deeper bass, richer mids and crystal clear heights”.
I’m sure they deliver exactly it: I like Cambridge Audio Sound, which tends to favor clarity over low-end thuggishness and overly harsh heights, and these are set to deliver the same signature sound as the company’s other models.
These buds also introduce something Cambridge calls ‘Dynameq’, which is designed to subtly improve the sound when turning the volume up or down: Different frequencies behave differently when the volume level changes, so for example bass that is fantastic at high volume, can overpower boomy at lower levels. Dynameq promises to adjust it for consistent sound on any volume without coloring the sound.
There is 11 hours of battery life from the buds alone (6.5 with ANC ON and 28 more via the charging case), Hybrid ANC and an updated Melomania Connect app you can use to map the touch controls and adjust the EM. Bluetooth is 5.4 with multipoint. There is also a six-mic matrix for a clear voice and video call.
Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 is available from today (Thursday 26 June) in the UK, Europe and Asia with a price tag of £ 119 / € 139 / $ 149.99 (around AU $ 248). US prices and accessibility will be announced later this year.
