- Canon teases launch event for September 9 2025 at. 14.00 BST
- Partly hidden image is strongly suggesting new cinema camera
- The jerk of being Canon EOS C50, a direct rival to Sony FX3
Canon Europe has sent a teaser on its YouTube suggesting a larger new camera launch next week. Under the title “Something new coming!”, The video is set to premiere at. 14.00 BST on September 9th.
Currently, all that can be seen in advance view screen, a partially lit camera body and lens, but Canon has left some large clues to what we can expect – namely the big red shutter button and a lit red tally lamp. Both are characteristics associated with the brand’s cinema cameras, and this taken next to the body shape of the camera (Boxy, without Search Pug), strongly suggests that we get our first look at a new cinema EOS camera next week.

The online rumor mill has already been overwhelmed by this new launch and claims that the new camera will be the Canon EOS C50, a compact replacement for the current Canon EOS R5 C and a direct rival to the four -year -old Sony FX3. The proposal for compact proportions, much smaller than the EOS C70, certainly matches the teaser image.
Take care, Sony FX3 …
According to Sonyalpharumors, the Canon EOS C50 comes with a 32MP frame sensor and is able to shoot open gate using the entire surface of the sensor-boats width and height-to-shoot. This is something we’ve seen in some of Panasonic’s Lumix cameras, Blackmagic Cinema camera models and more, but not on Sony or Canon cameras.
C50 is reportedly under 700 g (lens not included), making it extremely compact and easy for a cinema camera.
If the Canon EOS C50 arrives with the features and designs mentioned above, it can prove a much more tempting view than the aging Sony FX3. Sony has long rumored to work at a highly expected FX3 II so we may have a new battle for the compact cinema cameras to look forward to.
