ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced an ambitious plan to develop dedicated cycle lanes and pedestrian-friendly paths across Islamabad, along with a comprehensive effort to upgrade residential sectors, revamp commercial centers and eliminate illegal encroachments across the federal capital.
The decisions were taken during a recent high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, at the CDA headquarters. Senior officials from the administration, engineering, planning and environment wings attended the session.
During the meeting, the officials gave detailed briefings on the ongoing rehabilitation and upgradation work in various residential sectors and commercial markets. The projects include repair and renovation of parking lots, improvement and widening of footpaths and upgradation of commercial areas as well as Class-III malls to bring them in line with modern city standards.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable and environment-friendly mobility, the CDA chief directed the construction of cycle paths along existing footpaths in various parts of the city. He also called for the development of dedicated footpaths in major commercial centers to facilitate safe, convenient and uninterrupted movement for residents and visitors alike.
In a parallel initiative, the authority has increased its focus on urban management and enforcement. Randhawa issued clear directives for the immediate removal of all illegal constructions and encroachments from residential areas as well as commercial areas, signaling a renewed and more stringent effort aimed at reclaiming public spaces and improving the order of the city.
The meeting also reviewed plans to modernize key elements of the city’s infrastructure, including installing improved signs, better lane markings and expanding digital parking systems to streamline traffic management. Regular landscaping, horticulture and maintenance work will also be carried out to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of sectors and commercial hubs.
Particular attention was paid to repairing and upgrading important civic infrastructure such as damaged manholes, curbs and sewerage and drainage systems, which have long been a source of concern for residents in several parts of the capital.
Emphasizing the importance of Islamabad’s image as a well-planned and clean city, the CDA chairman directed the officials to prioritize the beautification of all entry points to the capital and ensure higher standards of sanitation and cleanliness throughout the city.
He emphasized that all development projects must be completed within set deadlines and in accordance with high quality standards, adding that the provision of modern urban amenities, improved infrastructure and the overall beautification of Islamabad remain key priorities for the authority.
