Karachi:
The Karachi police have completed the case against Salman Farooqui, who had been nominated in an assault case involving a young man in Itehad -commercial defense area Housing Authority (DHA).
The incident had given rise to widespread indignation after video footage of the shift became viral on social media last month.
During a recent hearing at the South Judicial Magistrate’s Court, police informed the court that the case had officially withdrawn. The Gizri Police presented a “C-Class” report, which indicates that the case is no longer prosecuted.
According to the report, the complainant, Dheeraj alias Dhanraj, said in a written statement that he does not want to pursue litigation and that neither he nor his sister was facing any misunderstanding from the defendant. Affidavit led to dropping all charges, including criminal threat and threats of killing.
The court accepted the police report in the post and postponed the case.

Farooqui had originally been arrested for assaulting a motorcyclist following a traffic wiped on Khayaban-e-Iitethad. The viral video showed Farooqui physically attacked the rider in front of the victim’s sisters, despite their repeated pleas for him to stop.
The recordings triggered significant setback online and led to the registration of a case against Farooqui and co-accused Owais Hashmi at Gizri Police Station. When the complainant withdrew his statement and the charges fell, the authorities have now closed the case.
