Islamabad:

In a case regarding the construction of residential and commercial buildings on Islamabad’s Margalla Hills, a constitutional bench (CB) from the Supreme Court has sought detailed reports from the federal and all provincial governments.

The five-member bench, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, ordered authorities to submit information on all forest land that has been intervened, as well as land from which intervention has been removed.

During the hearing, justice noted Jamal Khan Mandokhail that although governments around the world increase forest coverage, forests in Pakistan disappear steadily. He emphasized that the bench is not only seeking reports, but the truth of the actual state of the country’s forests.

Justice Mandokhail, which belongs to the Balochistan Province, noted that non -delivery of alternative fuel is also forcing people to cut down trees.

“Can the people of Ziarat [in northern Balochistan] Understand from cutting trees in the absence of any other fuel source in minus 17 degrees Celsius temperature? Does the government try the population in cold areas any alternative source of energy? “He asked.

A lawyer representing the government said the government is supplying LPG to Ziarat.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar asked what subsidies are offered the poor people living in mountainous areas. Justice Aminuddin Khan noted that it is the government’s responsibility to provide basic facilities to people.

Justice Mazhar complained that since 2018, reports have been submitted in the case.
