CDA starts handing over plots in Sector I-15 after 20 years

Flyt, part of a long-delayed housing project, follows two decades of development work

The Capital Development Authority has started handing over possession of more than 8,600 developed plots out of 10,200 in Islamabad’s Sector I-15, worth over Rs 70 billion.

At a ceremony held at the Jinnah Convention Center on Thursday, over 200 were awarded possession orders. Sector I-15 housing project was initially launched for low income citizens.

CDA chairman said that after more than two decades of delay, the development work has been completed and the possession process formally started following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives prioritizing housing needs in the capital.

He appreciated NAB’s cooperation in removing hurdles in the project and acknowledged its role in ensuring legal rights of allottees. The remaining awardees will soon receive certificates at their doorsteps.

To limit land-related irregularities, CDA is working with SUPARCO to implement advanced technology. Congratulating the allottees, NAB DG Waqar Ahmed Chauhan said that the verification of documents was completed before issuing possession letters.

He announced that NAB and CDA will jointly introduce a new system of transparency in the housing sector, including barcoded allotment letters and mandatory escrow accounts for housing societies to ensure that deposited funds are used only for development activities.

The CDA chairman said public confidence in the authority’s policies reflects their commitment, adding that development work in other delayed sectors including C-14 has been expedited and possession will soon be handed over to allottees.
