Celebrities and cricketers expressed grief over the destruction caused by floods in northern Pakistan and urged the public and authorities to intensify relief efforts for affected people.
At least 344 people lost their lives in 48 hours such as flooding, landslide and rain -related events, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). With rescue operations in progress in the affected areas.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, 328 people perished, and dozens were left wounded, while Gilgit Baltistan (GB) recorded 12 deaths, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 11 deaths.
Authorities fear that the toll could increase further when search operations continue in severely affected areas as serious floods and landslides in districts, including buns, SWAT, Mansehra, Bajaur and Batagram, have ruined home, shops and infrastructure.
“Today, our country is crying,” Singer Asim Azhar wrote on Instagram to express his grief over the loss of precious life.
“The floods have taken home, dreams and precious lives in Pakistan. My heart is tendering for every mother, father, child and soul affected.”
“In moments like these, we must become one, a nation, a heart, one hand reaches another. Hold them in your prayers and if you are able to, you need to extend your support to trusted relief efforts.”
“Together we can help heal what’s broken,” Azhar said, appealing to the public to come forward and help the distressed.
Well -known model and actor Nadia Hussain also wrote: “Ya Allah! Save our country from multiple disasters.”
When one expresses grief over the flood disaster, singer Umir Jaswal said, “My prayers are with the departed souls, and my heart goes out to the families who endure unimaginable grief.”
He appealed to the public to avoid traveling to northern areas in the coming days considering security as well as to facilitate rescue and relief efforts.
“Let’s stand together in prayer, support and caution,” he concluded.
Author Fatima Bhutto questioned the status of relief activities in the flood areas of “horrific” disasters.
Former Pakistan -Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed said, “Ya Allah, Protect KPK, Protect Pakistan. Give shelter to the homeless, heal the wounded and give patience to those who lost their loved ones. Amen.”
Other cricketers also went to their social media accounts to pray for the victims and call for accelerated actions to save and rehabilitate flood -affected communities.
