Champions Trophy – PCB asks ICC for clarification over the Indian anthem played before Australia -england

PCB has reached the ICC for clarification after the Indian national anthem was mistakenly played for a moment at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

At the forefront of the game between Australia and England, the National Anthem of Britain was played without events. Instead of following it up with opening tunes from the Australian national anthem, a recording of the Indian national anthem began to call out before it was quickly stopped and changed.

Espncricinfo understands that PCB is unhappy with the error for which it has blamed the ICC. A PCB official told Pakinomist that since this is an ICC tournament, anthem -playing list was produced and distributed by ICC, with ICC responsible for playing anthem in front of the matches. The PCB also questioned the presence of the Indian anthem in the playlist in the first place, as India does not play any of their matches in Pakistan.

This is the second time in so many days that PCBs have had to ask the ICC for an explanation for events as it feels has undermined Pakistan as official hosts in Champions Trophy. During the second game in the tournament in Dubai, when India played Bangladesh, Pakistan’s name was omitted from the logo of the official broadcast.

This was a departure from the broadcast graphic to the other matches in the tournament so far, including the tournament opener between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi, where the event name as well as ‘Pakistan’ was visible on the broadcast.

ICC put it down to a technical error, though it was an explanation that did not satisfy PCB. ICC sold that such a thing would not be repeated no matter where games were held. This means that the feed for Sunday’s match between India and Pakistan in Dubai – the most profiled competition in the tournament – will include Pakistan’s name on the official logo on screen.

The game between Australia and England drew the largest audience of the tournament so far and was the most dramatic when Australia chased a record 351 to beat England with five wickets with 15 balls to spare.
