- Two expensive Resident Evil watches are set to be released
- They will be worn by the main characters Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem
- They are part of a collaboration between Capcom and the watch brand Hamilton
While your garden variety player might get excited about the characters and action Resident Evil Requiemsomething else has caught my eye. The main character of the watch Leon S Kennedy wears.
Created in collaboration with Capcom, Swiss matchmaker Hamilton has come up with the Khaki Field Auto Chrono x Resident Evil, a timepiece designed to fit the narrative setting of Racoon City some thirty years after the outbreak of the T-Virus.
Now as a fan of mechanical watches, this really got my attention. Hamilton is no stranger to making watches for Christopher Nolan’s movies and games Interstellar with the now iconic Hamilton Khaki Murph and games such as Death Standing 2 and Far cry 6 with the brand’s watches. And the watches produced for them really fit their respective themes rather than feeling like cynical tie-ins.
The Khaki Field Auto Chrono x Resident Evil is based on the design of the Hamilton Khaki Field watches, with the ‘Field’ bit indicating that this watch is a military-inspired timepiece designed to be easily read and synchronized when you’re out on operations – or ‘in the field’.

And Khaki Field takes direct inspiration from the watches used by the US Army in World War I, and Hamilton still has close ties to the military when it comes to making rugged watches.
So it makes sense that Leon, with his combat experience, would choose a Hamilton Field Guard. But the Khaki Field Auto Chrono is not just a simple timepiece, as it also has a chronograph function for timing elapsed minutes and hours, as well as a day and date complication; I’ve never had to survive in a city ravaged by zombies and other mutated horrors, but I imagine it would be handy to be able to track the length of time between meeting points without having to worry about a phone battery.

There are also a lot of nice details Travel watch, with the crown modeled on a knob used to adjust the focus of a sniper rifle scope, and the chronograph pushers shaped to trigger bullet cartridges. A particular highlight is the motif with black wings at 9 o’clock.
Hamilton hasn’t mentioned specs for the watch, but based on the standard Khaki Field Chrono, you’re looking at a watch with a 42mm dial, 14.5mm thickness and 100m water resistance. Inside Travel The watch is likely to house the Hamilton H-21 caliber, which is an automatic mechanical movement that will keep ticking for 60 hours even if not worn; automatic watches win when you wear them and move. A black fabric strap completes the rugged, action-centric look.
As the owner of Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical, I’m a big advocate of Hamilton watches as I think they offer great value and a lot of options as they just look good in a world where more and more people are wearing ubiquitous smartwatches.
If Leon’s watch doesn’t suit you, Hamilton has one Travel version of the American Classic Pan Europ. Worn by FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, this watch is slightly less rugged than Leon’s and evokes someone more likely to travel between locations than on operations.
The American Classic Pan Europ is another 42mm watch, but is based on the idea of a road trip watch. As such, it has a day and date complication, but instead of a chronograph, it uses a rotating bezel which can be used to track the elapsed time; such a bezel is commonly found on diving watches, but I have found these bezels to be great for timing walks and other such adventures.
With geometric gold motifs contrasting against the black case and running down the black leather strap, I think Travel take on the American classic Pan Europ looks pretty smart. Again, no exact specs, but with the standard American Classic Pan Europ, the watch is a wearable 11.85mm thick, has 50 meters of water resistance (enough to withstand a run under a tap or rain, but not one I’d recommend swimming in), and appears to house the automatic H-30 movement that has a healthy 80 hour power reserve.
If you want one of these, or indeed both Travel watches keep in mind that they will be limited to 2,000 pieces each, with the American Classic Pan Europ priced at $1,475 / £1,170 / AU$2,150, and the Khaki Field Auto Chron spending $2,175 / £1,800 / AU$3,350.
They will be released on February 27 next door Resident Evil Requiem.
Now that’s a decent amount of money for a watch, especially when you can pick up a quartz watch that tells the time more accurately for a tenth of the price. But mechanical watches can last a lifetime, and limited edition watches can be hot collectibles.
Of course, I am a bit biased myself as a new watch collector. Likewise, I really like what Hamilton has done with these Travel watches, and I think they could have a good amount of appeal beyond weird watch geeks like me.
Speaking of watches and games, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Omega, which like Hamilton is owned by the Swatch Group, makes a real version of the Omega Seamaster that a young Bond appears to be wearing in IOI’s. 007: First Light.
Time will tell…
