The former ESPN host Samantha Ponder revealed on social media that she has received “disturbing” messages after she expressed her grief for Charlie Kirk’s death last week.
Ponder, who also talked about her worries for security while driving on New York City Subway after stabbing death by Irona Zarutska, wrote on X that her direct messages are increasingly worse since the grief of the loss of the 31-year-old conservative influencer.

“My DMs are more disturbing than ever (and trust me, it says something). Apparently only perfect people can be mourned when murdered in his 30s with a wife and little kids,” she wrote. “When a man gets shot and discusses opinions with someone for everyone to see, he has to adapt to our chosen dogma perfectly. If not, he would have come/shouldn’t have said these mean things so you should hold a chain about it.
“How can we see someone posters about sadness over the death of anyone they were interested in, even someone we think were defective, and say” stop being sad about them. I didn’t like their opinions. “Make sure with those who grieve. If I ever see hypocrisy, let me see it in myself. God forbids every word we have ever spoken be a prerequisite for sympathy when we die.”
Kirk was murdered at an event at Campus at Utah Valley University in Orem. Tyler Robinson was indicted in his killing.

Ponder was among the sports figures who talked about Kirk’s death and sorrow for his family and loved ones.
“I feel changed by this. First, admittedly, more frightened,” she wrote on Thursday. “But when I consider what is at stake for our country and our children, I am ankoldened to speak the truth with love even more.

“I spent so much of my professional career as a cowardly … shamefully afraid to say true things because it might be jeopardizing my position. One of the great things about not having any ‘position’ is the recognition that a platform is actually useless without courage. I take care of Charlie’s family. I take care of our country. bold in public as he often did. ”
