Charlie Kirk was shot and died later at a talking event in Utah on Wednesday, causing emotional reactions from prominent characters across sports.
President Donald Trump later announced that Kirk was dead, in a post about the social of truth.

New York Giants Rookie Quarterback Jaxson Dart made a number of posts on his Instagram stories and shared his thoughts on the shooting.

“This is some Bull S — man! Absolutely sick!” Dart wrote in one story and added another: “Pray for him and his family! Charlie did great things for our country! Political violence has to stop! Pray for our country man! This is disgusting and sad!”
Other figures related to sports that have spoken out include bar stool sports pins Dave Portnoy and Outkick founder Clay Travis.
Several other characters in sports and sports media offered their thoughts and prayers.
Trump announced Kirk’s death at 1 p.m. 16.40 A Wednesday.
“The great and even legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the heart of youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by everyone, especially me, and now he is no longer with us. Melania and my sympathy go out to his beautiful wife Erika and family. Charlie, we love you!” Trump wrote.
Video sent from the event looked to show that Kirk was shot when he was talking with the crowd from under a white pop-up tent.

After the shot, the crowd spread, with spectators shouting “Run, Running, Running!”
In a statement to Pakinomist, Ellen Treanor, associate vice president, strategic communication management at Utah Valley University said that the shooting happened at about 1 p.m. 12:20 local time.
In a campus-covering alarm, Utah Valley University said “a single shot was fired on campus against a visitor speaker. The police are now investigating.”

Kirk was scheduled to perform at Utah Valley University Wednesday as part of his American comeback tour, with another stop at Utah State University later this month.
