- Openai has launched GPT-4.5, but only for Chatgpt Pro users right now. Plus users get it next week
- GPT-4.5 is allegedly smarter and more emotionally intuitive than previous AI models but lacking deep reasoning power
- Openai claims GPT-4.5 will provide better conversations and fewer hallucinations than ever
Openai has officially launched the GPT-4.5, the most advanced version of its AI models, but it has no deep reasoning because it is designed to be an all-purpose model. The latest model is available on Chatgpt, but so far you have to be a pro subscriber to access it.
The model is rolled out as an “research example”, which means it is imperfect and Openai hopes users will help sort any errors or awkeness. Still, the company claims that the early testers report that GPT-4.5 feels more natural, intuitive and emotionally intelligent. This is a welcome upgrade for those of us who have ever asked chatgpt about information and felt that the answer was just an outdated Wikipedia page.
GPT-4.5 is assumed to be even better at understanding context and recognizing social signals than its predecessors. The overall feeling is reportedly everything, but cannot be distinguished from chatting with a real person. It certainly seems to have impressed Openai CEO Sam Altman, who called it “The first model to feel like talking to a thought-provoking person” in a post of X. Altman added that GPT-4.5 is coming to Chatgpt Plus and Team subscribers next week but you have to pay $ 200 a month to play with it for now.
GPT-4.5 is ready! Good news: It’s the first model that feels like talking to a thoughtful person to me. I’ve had several moments where I’ve been sitting back in my chair and been amazed to get actually good advice from an AI.BAD News: It’s a huge, expensive model. we…February 27, 2025
Fewer hallucinations, more empathy
In particular, GPT-4.5 is not only allegedly smarter and more creative, but it should also produce fewer hallucinations. The last part is especially important because hallucinations were often an adhesive point for tentative chatgpt users who did not want to rely on a chatbot that could certainly make things up. In terms of performance, GPT-4.5 is assumed to be a big step up and really good with general knowledge. However, this does not mean that it can handle coding and problem solving as well as Openai’s O1 and O3 models or rival options such as Deepseeks R1.
Instead, GPT-4.5 specializes in empathy with a high emotional quotient (EQ). AI still can’t feel things, but GPT-4.5 should be better at picking up nuance. If you vent about a bad day, it doesn’t just answer, “I’m sorry you feel it that way.” Instead, it is designed to offer more thoughtful answers.
“By Vibber, really means the model’s EQ, how collaborating it feels and how hot its tone is,” explained Openai Engineer Rapha Gontijo Lopes in a live stream demonstration of GPT-4.5. “We measured this by choosing a meaningful set of prompt and screening of our teachers for those who are most in line with our vibber.”
If you are a chatgpt pro user, you will be among the first to see if the GPT-4.5 really has the vibes from a human and lives up to the hype. If you don’t use so much you’ll get a chance soon. Either way, with Amazon, who announced a more talked, AI-driven Alexa+ yesterday, the AI weapon race was just heated again, and this time it looks like chatbots will be able to emulate how you feel more realistic than ever.
